The Next Post

Never have I been so nervous about what to post next on my blog. But it is nervousness in the best possible way.

Being a Blog of Note has done more than bring people to my blog, it has made me realize more than ever that I want to be a writer, want to feel that I am making more deliberate strides towards that goal. And reading the kind and powerful words of fellow bloggers, readers, and people from literally everywhere has fired that passion in a way that is hard to adequately express. I posted a comment among the many I was receiving and stated that I had never been more inspired than in this moment. And that is so true.

In reading the comments so many of you graciously left, I felt so touched that what I wrote had meaning to someone in the way that things I have read have had for me. I am truly humbled.

Writing about what happened to me last year was part of the closure. Many of my friends didn't even know exactly what happened. I was ashamed for so long because of all the excitement I had expressed to them about the relationship, only to have been completely fooled. I told a few different versions of a less embarrassing reason for the break up. To put it all out there was a piece of the puzzle, and confirmation that I finally recognized I had nothing to be ashamed about.

This blogger community is a little miracle to me. I have questioned my talent, wondered if I was right to want so badly to express myself through my words and name that my calling. And as I make my way through all of the blogs of those who left comments, reading all of the amazing work and getting encouragement from such a talented group, it has helped me believe in myself and what I want to do. How incredible is that?

Whatever your goals, whether it is to be a writer, to just have a space to spill some emotion, to simply have a central spot for your parents to see updates about their grandchildren, blogging is a little world in which you have creative freedom and opportunity. Take it, and know that we have such an intelligent, compassionate group of supporters behind us to keep us all inspired.

And finally, quite simply . . . thank you.

Thanks for inspiring me to continue to post my dabble writing on my blog. I hope one day to have a blog like yours that people actually read and comment on.

Hi, I really like your blog. I come accross it through Blog of Note. Reading one post is not enough, you simply have to read all of them. Thank you and please continue writing. :)

Moonshadow July 30, 2009 at 1:56 AM

Lots of people check out the Blog of Note but not every blog gets comments. A blog has to touch people garner the kind of comments that you received. Keep writing! :)

I was deeply touched by your suitcase story, your forthrightness and enthralling narrative style. Congrats to being a Blog of Note, keep on writing!

Why Me July 30, 2009 at 6:38 AM

I've only discovered the joy of blogging this past few weeks and I'm really enjoying it. I love writing even though I had a pretty terrible English teacher.

Like Einstein said, Everything in this world is created twice, once in the mind and once in reality.

I just read your latest blog and you should follow your dreams and be that writer you want to be.

Regina July 30, 2009 at 7:32 AM

Congrats again on the Blog of Note. Very deserved. I just started blogging and am discovering how wonderful it is to put yourself out there and take the risk. I hope eventually people will follow and read my work, but even if not I feel its an achievement in itself just creating a blog. Well done again. You are an inspiration to fellow bloggers and to anyone with a heart.

Nezzy (Cow Patty Surprise) July 30, 2009 at 7:57 AM

God bless you. We have all experienced a broken heart. I am so glad you let yours out of that suitcase and reclaimed your right to love again. Your suitcase will touch someones life in a positive way and free you to find the love of your life. Fairy tales can come true. Have a beautiful day!

I have had a few on/off blogs over the years... ok, quite a few! I closed my last one because I didn't think anyone was interested and felt as though I was wasting my time. When I started the one I have now, I even doubted that one, but I kept it because I knew some day I would return for one reason or another. In reading the last full paragraph of this post of yours, you have made me realize that I really do need to keep it up - because it's a part of me, in so many, many ways! Glad you have been inspired by friends of all sorts - and keep up the great, inspiring work!

Anonymous,  July 30, 2009 at 8:36 AM

Believe me, I know what you mean by worrying about the next post, but you do not need to worry so much.

You are a great writer and blogger.

You are definitly worthy of being in our little Blog Of Note community!

Anonymous,  July 30, 2009 at 8:50 AM

I am glad I found you via the Blog of Note. Congratulations! I have ready a few posts and I love the honesty. You are a wonderful writer! Keep it up. I am going to continue to read through your posts.:)

I just set up my blog yesterday, and in an attempt to get some traffic, I took a look at "Blogs of Note" and yours immediately caught my attention. Writing is a passion for me, and at times I feel frustrated that I don't always have a way to share it. Your latest entry has definitely encouraged me to continue my blog. Thanks and keep writing!

Gayla July 30, 2009 at 9:22 AM

(((Kim)))
First, congratulations on being selected on Blog of Note. After reading through your blog, Thinking Out Loud is totally deserving of being featured. You are a very talented writer and I have a feeling your talents will take you far. :) Keep it up!
Just like you, the blogging community is a miracle to me also. I've made life long friends after 6 years of blogging. My silly blog is nowhere near your talented writing, but it's my little "thing". (lol)But the encouragement, friendships, support and so much more from all who stop by my blog means the world to me---always will :)

Take good care and congrads to you again!
Gayla

PS: Bear is absolutely adorable! I just want to hug him :)

Congrats on being Blog of Note.

I'm sorry that guy hurt you in the way he did. Some guys just don't understand how to treat a woman. At least you found a way to reinvent yourself here (writing for your blog). You've become a stronger young woman from the experience and someday you'll find the one who's right for you. Until then keep your head up high and keep smilin'.

Have a great day.

Lilian Moreira July 30, 2009 at 9:32 AM

I started my blog right after a relationship finishes in a terrible way. I really know what you mean. I do not write about my feelings in my blog in such an open way like you do (I'm not a great writer like yourself), but that little space makes me feel better for sure. Keep going, you are doing a fabulous job. Take care!

Bailey-Jean July 30, 2009 at 9:36 AM

Hi, I think your blog is incredible.
I would also like to become a writer, and I find talking about my life in a blog would be a good way to get started.
So I made a blog a week ago, and so far, no good.
I've had no hits or no cmments
And I know it's only been a few days but I feel like it's a waste of time because no one's reading it.
So if you have time could you take a look, and give me some expert constructive criticism.
And like pass round the url to some writer friends.
Thankyou

:)

I loved reading your blog. I too have recently re-found my love of writing and am trying to get back into the swing of things. It is inspiring to read yours and to try to learn how this blogging world works! I applaud your candor and hope you keep up with it, as I hope to keep reading it! And any advice woudl be appreciated!

Tessa G. July 30, 2009 at 10:48 AM

I as well enjoy your blog a great deal. I came across it on the Blogs of note.I loved-- and could somewhat relate to the heartbreak you experienced, except of course a different situation. It's when we cannot change the way other people think or feel is when we find ourselves feeling so low. When we've put in everything and seem to come out with so little to show for the pain and dedication we've put in--it's just well..heartbreaking.

I agree. I believe a blog is a way to communicate with whoever is willing to read it. I love delving into other peoples lives just to get a new perspective on the world around us--each person has their own story, life, and great things to share. It's about the inspiration and a way to let your family, friends, and even complete strangers get a feel for your day to day life or whatever you want to share. I love the blogging community and I am glad I came across your blog! Keep up the good work!

Dandy July 30, 2009 at 11:44 AM

I've only been blogging for a little over a month and it is so much more than I ever thought it would be.

You have a lovely talent.

The Reasonable Christian July 30, 2009 at 12:40 PM

Wow! Blog of note! What a thrill for you as an aspiring writer. Good luck!

OutOnMyOwn July 30, 2009 at 12:53 PM

I am also an aspired writer, but my problem is, I don't like to share my work with my friends and family, mostly because I don't want them to know what I am capable of, this is why I started a blog about two weeks ago. I'm just under the age of sixteen, and seeing that there are other people out there similar to me, although there may be an age difference, helps me to realize that it is possible to go from being a nobody to somebody everyone loves. I haven't put any of my real writing onto my blog yet, just a few small things that have come to my mind, but reading through your blog has inspired me to share a little bit more, although most of it may never be seen. Thank you for this little bit of inspiration. :)

Noelle July 30, 2009 at 1:24 PM

First of all, I am sorry because my English is not good. This is the firts time I read your blog and I like it. I have a question for you, although according to your profile you are francophile, you do not include any French writer in your list. Have you read Rimbaud, Sartre, Camus,...? If so do you like them?
Congratulation for your blog.

Anonymous,  July 30, 2009 at 3:32 PM

I joined just today and found your blog through 'blogs of note'. I am really happy to have found it because I am myself very interested in literature, journalism and writing. Even though I'm only a fifteen year old girl I feel like a career in publishing or art would suit me. Thanks for the inspirations you share with us and I hope to maybe one day also have the power to move people with a simple word or sentence.

I suppose I see a great many things like a business. If you coninue to work and build and sow and learn and keep at it- BAM! It's going to all come together in a big way. (As in, cha-ching.) You've done all the above. it's obvious. Get those deposit slips ready. I know, I know, art, literature, truth, sincerity, self expression, creativity, innovation.. but those things do pay.

Dear Miss Kim, I just spent some time reading your last two posts. It's no wonder you are listed under blogs of note. You have a definite gift of writing. I throughly enjoyed your storytelling manner in which you describe your agony and heartache in The Suitcase. Beautiful. I shall put your blog on my followers list. If per chance you should come visit me, I am sure you will find my life to be very dull and boring compared to the life you describe. I am truly sorry for the pain and shame you had to feel over this man who turned out to be such a toad! You, Kim, did nothing wrong. In fact, it sounds like you did everything right. He, however, has much to answer for... somewhere down the road.

There is a song written by Amy Grant on her Behind The Eyes CD. The first part of it goes like this:

"So much pain, and no good reason why. I've cried until the tears run dry. And though it seems the hurting never ends, all I know to do is keep on walking, walking 'round the bend.

Somewhere down the road, there'll be answers to the questions. Somewhere down the road, though we cannot see it now. Somewhere down the road, you will find mighty arms reaching for you... and they will hold the answers... at the end of the road."

Hugs to you, Penny Sue

I just discovered you. I transplanted here from MySpace, where I was a top blogger for a couple of years. I remember making that top 50 for the first time, then working my way up to top 10. I had around 5,000 views a day at one time. I know it sounds hard to believe but you really do get used to it...and it's good practice for the pressure of writing to a mass audience. There's no better training. Congrats!

I just happened to stumble upon your blog. I found it really interesting. What I also found interesting in was the view that you have when it comes to blogging. I never thought of it that way. Just a place to express myself... Thank you! I found this very expressive, and enlightening for me. I would love to ask if you would check out my blog page. I would show great appreciation to see you check it out.

Kim - I've only been on your blog a couple minutes and already I LOVE it. All Blogs of Note are obviously good but yours is a cut above. Your writing style is perfect, and I just read your "About Me" section and everything you've written there we have in common! Thank you for writing, keep at it!

Jo August 1, 2009 at 1:42 PM

Hi, Kim. I'm Jo--also an aspiring writer who constantly questions and second guesses myself.
I've beeen browsing through your blogs--with awe, I must say--and find myself with some of the same yearnings. Anyone who believes they have a gift or talent understands the process that accompanies it; fear, trepidation and rejection just to name a few. However, let us also remember that the impossible happens in peoples lives every day. How many times have you read about miracles or things that weren't supposed to happen but did? And how many times have you read something that someone else wrote--whether it's an article, blog, anything--and thought; "Sheesh! I could do THAT. Perhaps even better."?
It is that feeling that we should jump on and not let go of, for it outweighs all other negative adjectives that jump around in our stream of consciousness. Being doubtful comes easy to us, but, turning that stream into an ocean is what will make others stand up and take notice. Mostly ourselves.
I wish you luck and great success in your writing. You already have me--and it looks like many others--who belive in you. After being this mesmerized by a blog--imagine what a book will do for us readers.
We await.

~Jo

Hi, I just wanted to say that I think your blog is amazing. I love how you can put your emotions and everything into words and that you can can be so truthful and honest. I completely agree when you say that blogging can be a wonderful thing for to different people for their own personal reasons. I also loved what you said about the insecurities about things that are so dear to you...there's a quote that I came across once that reminds me of what you said..."It's hard to describe it in a way that will be understandable to anyone who is neurotic. I will try. All my life I have been haunted by the obsession that to desire a thing or to love a thing intensely is to place yourself in a vulnerable situation, to be a possible, if not a probable, loser of what you want" - Tennessee Williams. Sometimes when you want something so badly or I guess to become something so badly we sometimes question ourselves and think that we aren't good enough. But like you said with support and with your will all of those insecurities can go away and the ability to accomplish great things starts to become a reality... Good luck with everything Kim!

Kim-

I understand how you feel so well. I, too, get great pleasure from blogging (even though I have only been at this a few days). It not only gives me an outlet for my love of writing, but allows me the freedom to express my feeling openly. That is a blessing at any stage in life, especially when dealing with difficulty as you (and I) have been. Thank you for following my blog, others have followed you there - I appreciate the opportunity. Take care and continue with your wonderful gift. Journie

The Suitcase was an awesome blog and it has helped me through what I am going through. I just wish I had the suitcase instead of a house to go through.:)

I totally understood and felt for you in your posts. The relationship one being something I didn't quite experience myself, but have gone through something equally as upsetting in my personal life as of late. I love your writing and hope you continue to do so. :)

Michael August 5, 2009 at 2:25 PM

now add to the fact you had no family,as your family sexually and physically abused you your whole life and you were all alone facing cancer and other health things as you had to also move to get away from a domestic violence ex who wanted to kill you!! I know a a woman like that who also had same sort of relationship but with someone she knew was maybe not going to be around for very long. Sad.

I read your story. I'm younger than you but I know how you feel. I was fooled too. And the thing is, even when you know...sometimes you aren't strong enough to break away from the situation, that comes with time. And if I have anything..it's time. So thank you, for sharing your story.

I know much has been said, so i will not be overly repetitious, but your "wanna-be" photographs are incredible. You have a wonderful eye.

I'm fairly new to the blogger community, but have found it incredibly enriching just as you have said...and INSPIRING. My subject matter is primarily religious in nature. The small blog community i am apart of is trying to rearticulate the essence of "christian faith." Away from the legalistic moralism and sensationalism of many current christians. I am trying to envision a Christianity in which religious co-existence takes the place of evangelical zeal. But i digress.

I will definitely be following your blog, anticipating your photographs, and looking forward to your further inspirations. Be well!

I really enjoy your blog. I came across it when it became a blog of note. I became even more interested when I learned you live in Paris. I am very interested in the French and their culture. I am taking the language for the first time this year. Thanks for being a great inspiration, hopefully one day our blog will be as great as yours !

Seems like you have found your way, my friend. So very happy for you!! Seems like just yesterday I was hopping around your blog, spying on you, reading your works, lurking and looking for signs that you were "ok".

But with over 1,000 followers now I'm pretty sure the confirmation of what you need to be doing with your life goal has been made real! lol!! Congrats. You soooo deserve this!
