Holiday Countdown

I know this post may come off as, um, bitter. I don't mean for it to, but I have to be honest. I would like to say I am in the holiday spirit, am up to my gills in eggnog and tinsel, but really, I am counting the days until I don't have to hear Christmas music EVERYWHERE I GO. I am yearning for the first day of January to arrive, so this holiday season is behind me. Even if I was in the holiday way this year, the commercialism and rude people I deal with every time I walk out the door would squash it for me. I honestly think that the rush to find the perfect gift and make the perfect holiday brings out the worst in most of the general public. I do count my blessings that I am no longer working retail. Working retail during Christmas was like some sort of prison, being tortured daily by the same Christmas CD playing over and over while the customers seemed to be competing to see who could be the most rude to those of us punching the clock to serve them. Bitter? Not me.

Worst things about working retail at Christmas:

1. "We're simply... having... a wonderful christmas time. We're simply... having... a wonderful christmas time. Whoa-oh-oh-CHRISTMAS TIIIIIIME." Shut up, Paul.

2. "MerryChristmas, MerryChristmas, andIthinkI'llmissthisonethisyear. MerrryChristmas, MerryChristmas, somethingsomethingshutthehellup."

And even though it wasn't around when I worked retail at the holidays, if I hear that damned "Christmas Shoes" song again, I'm going to scream.

Haha, now that I got that all out, maybe I can go back to my regularly scheduled holiday cheer. :)

Hang in there!

I love christmas for the family gathering side of things but I hate the commercialism side of things.

I try to make heartfelt gifts where I can and others I purchase because I feel they will be good for the kids, not because of market pressure or because it's the latest and greatest (heck our stereo system is 25 years old ROFL).

I always organise myself so that I never have to go out shopping during the busy Christmas rush time - it's totally insane and honestly people become so darned rude!
